U18s defeat Dundee to secure league title

Our under-18s defeated Dundee 2-0 on Friday evening to secure the Club Academy Scotland Performance League title.

Goals from Jackson Mylchreest and Ben McCrystal earned the young team another victory – and means they have built up an unassailable lead at the summit of the standings.

Saints had started with intent and quickly created a couple of half chances through Brodie Dair – who fired high and wide – then Bayley Klimionek’s header which drifted over.

McCrystal with a fierce drive was next to attempt to break the deadlock before Kodi McKinstray nodded over from a corner.

The opener, however, did arrive in the 10th minute of the match when determined work from Adam McMillan allowed him to take control in the Dundee box. He squared for striker Mylchreest who, positioned nicely, stroked the ball home from close.

Mylchreest had a wonderful opportunity to double the advantage shortly after when he was wiped out in the box. He picked himself up but had his penalty saved.

Saints continued to search for the all-important second and McMillan was next to head over the crossbar.

Klimionek saw his low drive well-saved at the beginning of the second half before the lead was then doubled as the hour mark approached.

It was McCrystal who managed to find the bottom corner from the edge of the box with a left-footed strike.

Saints managed the game well in the closing stages and had a couple of chances to extend their advantage further. But the two goals were more than enough to retain the title.

Everyone at the club wishes to congratulate the U18s on their latest success.
